THEODORE (TED) WALTER KESS Theodore (Ted) Walter Kess passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Ted was born in the north end of Winnipeg on September 20, 1934. Beloved husband of Jennie, brother to Stan (Phyllis), Robert (Carol) and Joan (Alec). Ted married his high school sweetheart Pauline Kotowski, February 20, 1954. Pauline passed in November 1992 after 38 years of marriage. Loving father to Jeffrey (Barb), Donna (Doug) and Derrick. Proud and beloved grandfather (Dzi Dzi) to Martin, Rachael, Hannah, Simon, Murdoch, Iona, Ashley and partners Jennifer, Harris, Tyler and Derek. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ted will be warmly remembered by his friends. Ted was predeceased by parents, Bernice Haier and Frank Kess, wife Pauline Kess and sister Joan Paskaruk. Ted apprenticed as an electrician. His career travels with the Federal government Department of Transport Canada took him to the High Arctic, to places such as Resolute Bay, Ellesmere Island, and Cornwallis Island. Prior to retirement Ted worked with CIDA in the Caribbean to upgrade airports in Jamaica, Barbados, Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands. Upon retirement he enjoyed spending winters in Texas. Ted was an avid golfer, joining Pine Ridge Golf Club in 1976. He enjoyed his golf and his golf companions immensely. He was especially proud of his five hole-in-ones (three at the Ridge, one at Pinawa and one in San Antonio). In Ted's own words I like my golf! Ted was very involved with the Knights of Columbus. He was a Past Grand Knight for Transcona Council and active at many levels including the Manitoba State level. He was on the Board of Directors of the Columbus Centennial Centre and was the Faithful Navigator of the Sir Frances Patrick Kennedy Assembly. Ted was a consummate volunteer and role model, who provided service to his community throughout his lifetime. Ted was the ultimate host. The Christmas parties on Laurentia Bay were legendary. During his sojourn in the Caribbean and in Texas, he opened his home providing wonderful memories to all who visited. Ted made the best dry martinis, dill pickles, clam chowder and oyster stew. Of all Ted's journeys, his Cancer journey was the hardest. He put up a never ending fight to live each day to the fullest with grace, dignity and fortitude. Our dear Jennie supported Ted through this Cancer battle like an angel on earth. There were many doctors and nurses that walked beside Ted. Thanks to Dr. Mohammed, Dr. Harding, Dr. Fatoye, Dr. Leylek, Dr. Crawford, the caring nurses and staff with the Health Sciences Centre Emergency Ward, Community Palliative Care, at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward and the Riverview Health Centre. The family extends gratitude to the many visitors that brightened the days at home and in the hospital. Funeral Mass with a Knights of Columbus Honour Guard will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Blessed Sacrament Church, 710 Roanoke St. at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Pierre Wood presiding. Viewing will be prior to funeral. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care Programs at St. Boniface Hospital or Riverview Health Centre. Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! Shakespeare. Funeral Arrangements In Care Of WHEELER FUNERAL CHAPEL 211 REGENT AVE.
